Breast Health

Beginning at age 40, women are recommended to have annual breast cancer screenings through mammograms (an x-ray of the breast). At NorthCrest, we offer both screening and diagnostic mammography services. Our mammography department consists of two dedicated and attentive radiologic technologists certified by AART in mammography. Screening and diagnostic procedures are interpreted by Board Certified Radiologists specializing in Breast Imaging.

When you visit for your screening or diagnostic mammogram, you will visit the Medical Imaging department of NorthCrest Medical Center. Patients will wait in our general waiting area, then once called back will prepare for the exam in one of two private mammography rooms.

On occasion, abnormal or unexpected mammography results require further examination. This can happen with both women who have benign breast conditions or a breast abnormality. With a digital stereotactic breast biopsy, we can take a sample of an abnormal spot in a quick, minimally painful procedure in a comfortable outpatient setting and requires no stitches and a quick recovery. While % of these biopsies conclude in benign (non-cancer) results, the ability to quickly determine if an abnormality is malignant (cancerous) is extremely important as early breast cancer detection is critical for the best prognosis.

A mammogram requires an order from your primary care provider. If you need a primary care provider, request an appointment online today or call 615-384-2411.
