NorthCrest Women’s Services Nurses Pass IBCLC Certification

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (October 22, 2009) – NorthCrest Medical Center Women’s Services Department is proud to announce that two of the department’s nurses, Candy Mitchell and Ann Weaver, have passed their lactation exam and are now International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC).

An IBCLC is a health care professional who specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding. IBCLCs are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners, Inc. (www.iblce.org) under the direction of the U.S. National Commission for Certifying Agencies. The IBCLC credential is the premier and only certification for lactation consultants and is the internationally recognized measure of competence for the profession.

Patients can trust that a lactation consultant who holds the IBCLC credential is a knowledgeable and experienced member of the maternal-child health team who has specialized skills in breastfeeding management and care.

“Having two certified lactation consultants is a great asset for our hospital and for our new mothers who are interested in breastfeeding,” said Tracey Barker, RN, director of NorthCrest’s Women’s Services. “Between the support that Candy and Ann can provided and the supplies that are available through our lactation boutique, NorthCrest can provide for our new mothers breastfeeding needs right here.”

NorthCrest’s Birth and Beyond Lactation Consultation Services provide support and education to breastfeeding mothers and are available to inpatients as well as outpatients.
