OB CST/Care Partner – Women’s

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Demonstrates knowledge of human growth and development, assessment and the care of patients appropriate to the ages of patients served.
 Functions as scrub person during operative procedures.
 Assists in the intra-operative care of the patient by performing technical duties as assigned.
 Assists in preparing the operating room and performs assigned support duties during surgical procedures.
 Assists team members in selecting and preparing routine supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures.
 Checks all instruments for workability prior to usage, displaying knowledge of instrument and content of set.
 Maintains and performs a count of sponges, sharps, and instruments according to departmental policies and procedures. Handles specimens in accordance with acceptable with acceptable infection control guidelines.
 Assists the RN in prioritizing implementation of physician’s orders according to the patient’s needs.
 Identifies and transports patients as needed. Secures all necessary x-rays when appropriate.
 Shares responsibility for patient safety at all times. Maintains an environment that is free of obstacles and hazards that could result in injuries to personnel and patients.
 Assists with positioning of patient, protection for pressure points, and keeps body parts in proper alignment.
 Assists in cleaning rooms following procedures according to departmental policy. Assist in returning all supplies equipment and instruments to proper locations.
 Promotes customer service initiatives.
 Answers telephones and public inquiries appropriately.
 Maintains patient charts.
 Assists with patient ambulation in room, hall and bathroom.
 Assists in passing meal trays, offering fluids and snacks, recording amounts consumed.
 Responds to call lights, requests from patient/family.
 Documents vital signs and informs nurse of any change in patient status.
 Assists with stocking supplies and maintains clean working environment.
 Assists coworkers to meet patient care needs.
 All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
 Current national Surgical Tech certification required (NBSTSA)
 Non Certified CST’s must complete required Continued Education hours annually due to the Tennessee Surgical Technologist Law for non-certified Surgical Technologists (applies to current employees only)
 Current BLS (or obtain prior to the completion of orientation)
 Basic computer skills & good communication skills
 1 year experience or education as surgical technician
