Demonstrates knowledge of human growth and development, assessment and the care of patients appropriate to the ages of patients served.
Functions as scrub person during operative procedures.
Assists in the intra-operative care of the patient by performing technical duties as assigned.
Assists in preparing the operating room and performs assigned support duties during surgical procedures.
Assists team members in selecting and preparing routine supplies, instruments, and equipment for surgical procedures.
Checks all instruments for workability prior to usage, displaying knowledge of instrument and content of set.
Maintains and performs a count of sponges, sharps, and instruments according to departmental policies and procedures. Handles specimens in accordance with acceptable with acceptable infection control guidelines.
Assists the RN in prioritizing implementation of physician’s orders according to the patient’s needs.
Identifies and transports patients as needed. Secures all necessary x-rays when appropriate.
Shares responsibility for patient safety at all times. Maintains an environment that is free of obstacles and hazards that could result in injuries to personnel and patients.
Assists with positioning of patient, protection for pressure points, and keeps body parts in proper alignment.
Assists in cleaning rooms following procedures according to departmental policy. Assist in returning all supplies equipment and instruments to proper locations.
Promotes customer service initiatives.
Answers telephones and public inquiries appropriately.
Maintains patient charts.
Assists with patient ambulation in room, hall and bathroom.
Assists in passing meal trays, offering fluids and snacks, recording amounts consumed.
Responds to call lights, requests from patient/family.
Documents vital signs and informs nurse of any change in patient status.
Assists with stocking supplies and maintains clean working environment.
Assists coworkers to meet patient care needs.
All other duties as assigned
Current national Surgical Tech certification required (NBSTSA)
Non Certified CST’s must complete required Continued Education hours annually due to the Tennessee Surgical Technologist Law for non-certified Surgical Technologists (applies to current employees only)
Current BLS (or obtain prior to the completion of orientation)
Basic computer skills & good communication skills
1 year experience or education as surgical technician
