Labor of Love Childbirth Preparation Classes
Certified Childbirth Educators who work on Women's Services at NorthCrest Medical Center teach these classes.
The Childbirth Preparation Series consists of five classes that meet twice weekly.
This series is a prenatal education program, as well as an introduction to the unit. During this series, anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, nutrition, conditioning exercises, the labor and delivery process, breathing and relaxation techniques and medical interventions will be discussed. Cesarean sections, analgesia and anesthesia options, post delivery events, infant care and safety are also discussed. A tour of the unit is included.
Breastfeeding Basics
Taught by one of our Certified Childbirth Educators, this class introduces interested couples to the basics of breastfeeding. Topics covered include the advantages of breastfeeding, anatomy and physiology, latch-on, correct positioning, preventing problems, establishing your milk supply and tips for expressing and storing human milk.
Participants are strongly encouraged to bring a partner to learn how to support and assist the breastfeeding mother.
If you have made the decision to breastfeed your baby or are thinking about it, this class is for you.
Pediatric Life Support
Taught by American Heart Association Instructors, these classes are offered throughout the year.
No one wants to think about a medical emergency, however it is important that parents know what to do if such an event occurs. During this class, parents will be introduced to accident prevention/safety, clearing an airway obstruction (choking) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) through demonstration and hands on practice.

Babysitting Classes
Taught by American Red Cross Instructors, these classes are offered throughout the year.
A must for babysitters to be! This class is designed for boys and girls 12 and older. Topics include establishing a relationship with the child/children, behavior and discipline, safety, first aid and an introduction to infant and child CPR. Sitters will also receive hints for making the job fun. Participants receive a certificate after completing the class.
