CPR

For information about class schedules or to register for a class, call 615-212-0541 .

These classes are taught by American Heart Instructors and are offered throughout the year.

Warning signs of a heart attack:

  • Mid-sternal chest pain, heaviness, pressure, squeezing, tightness, burning, discomfort
  • Pain radiating down one or both arms or to the jaw, shoulders, neck, mid back or upper abdomen
  • Chest discomfort with lightheadedness, fainting, sweating/cold clammy skin, shortness of breath, anxiety, paleness, increased or irregular heart beat, feeling of impending doom.
  • If you or a loved one have these symptoms, call 911, call your doctor or go to the nearest Emergency Room.
     
The largest reason that people do not survive a heart attack is WAITING . One third of all people having a heart attack will die within one hour of the onset of symptoms.

Cardiovascular disease, including heart attacks, are the number one killer of adults in the United States. A heart attack strikes suddenly, placing a person in a life-threatening situation. Knowledge of what to do in this emergency can make a difference between life and death.

Family and Friends CPR Adult, Child and Infant
Designed for individuals wanting to become more familiar with CPR. There is no test or card for this class. The participant will learn to:

  • Recognize a heart attack, stroke, choking and cardiac arrest.
  • Clear an airway obstruction (choking)
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) through demonstration and hands on practice

Heartsaver CPR Adult, Child, and Infant
Designed for individuals needing a certified CPR class. There will be a written test and a certification card given that will be good for two years.The participant will learn to:

  • Recognize a heart attack, stroke, choking and cardiac arrest.
  • Clearing an airway obstruction (choking)
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) through demonstration and practice.
  • Learn about barrier devices

HealthCare Provider Adult, Child, and Infant
Designed for individuals in the healthcare setting. There will be a written and skills test for CPR, choking, airway management and automated external defibrillator use. A certification card good for two years will be given upon completion of the course.

  • Recognize a heart attack, stroke, choking and cardiac arrest.
  • Clearing an airway obstruction (choking)
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) through demonstration and practice.
  • Learn about barrier devices
  • Perform airway management techniques
  • Use and automated external defibrillator
